Connection Bridge in honor of Jim Henson | As Kermit the Frog says, “Time’s fun when you’re having flies!” This year marks the 20th anniversary of The Birthplace of the Frog: An Exhibit of Jim Henson’s Delta Boyhood in our community. We will not let this occasion pass us by without a grand celebration in Jim’s childhood hometown. Plans are underway for a Festival of the Arts in historic downtown Leland on Saturday, September 24, 2011, which would have been Jim’s 75th birthday. To honor his memory, we will fill the town with art in all forms. Everyone will have a chance to make puppets, create sidewalk art, and possibly develop a few new artistic expressions. Who knows what budding artist is lurking among us just waiting to be discovered! The highlight of the day will occur at noon thanks to the Henson Family and Muppets Studio. At that time Leland’s Broad Street Bridge will be renamed the Rainbow Connection Bridge in honor of Jim Henson. Dignitaries will speak, the bridge will sport some festive decorations and of course, Exhibit officials aren’t letting the cat all the way out of the bag. You’ll just have to be there to see what other surprises are in store. See ya at the bridge! Kermit the Frog - (c) Muppets Studio 2011 - All rights reserved |
